SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Sophomore Matt Vento continues to be a vital contributor to the Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team, leading the Chargers to a 69-67 win over South Plainfield High School. Vento netted a game-high 25 points in the victory. In eight games for the Chargers this season, Vento is averaging 13.6 points per game with a total of 109 points for the 2016-17 season thus far.

Spotswood held a slim 34-31 lead at the halftime break while South Plainfield had a slight edge in the second half on the scoreboard. The Tigers' Dylan O'Connor tied the game up at 63 in regulation time to send the two teams into an overtime period, which saw the Chargers come out ahead 6-4 to nail down the hard-fought win.

Junior Vinnie Guardiola netted an impressive 19 points in the win for Spotswood while senior Andrew Fuzesi added a dozen. Abdullah Nieskens scored eight for the Chargers who improved their overall season record to 3-5 with the OT victory over the Owls. They are 1-3 in conference play.

The Chargers are scheduled to travel to Dunellen on Saturday, January 7 for a 2:30 p.m. game at Dunellen High School, weather permitting.
