SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Matthew Ciaccio pitched a two-hit shut out to defeat Middlesex High School and break the Spotswood High School varsity baseball team's two-game losing streak.

Ciaccio walked two and struck out four as he allowed only a single and a double in seven innings. His counterpart, Tyler Diamond, gave up five hits in six innings. Diamond struck out three batters.

Senior Jake Ryan came up big for the Chargers, hitting a double and knocking in an RBI. Chirs Auciello, Matt Krause and Shawn O'Connor also had hits for the Chargers. O'Connor hit a double that drove in Spotswood's other run. Krause's hit was a double as well.

Mike Salerno and Andrew Pollara got the only two hits off of Ciaccio for Middlesex.

Today's away game against Middlesex has been postponed due to weather conditions. The game is scheduled to be played tomorrow at Middlesex High School at 4 p.m.

Yesterday's victory moved the Chargers' overall record to 7-8 on the season. They are 6-5 in league play. After crushing Metuchen 14-4 on April 27, the Chargers were shut out by the Bulldogs 12-0 at home on Friday. They then lost to New Brunswick High School 11-3 on Saturday.
