SOMERVILLE, NJ – Guitarist and songwriter Peter Mayer climbed on to his Stars and Promises tour bus with a special souvenir presented by his good friend Rick Fontana after Saturday night's concert at the United Reformed Church on Main Street.

Fontana, a former Somerset County freeholder, filled in for Gallagher to present a proclamation to Mayer declaring Friday as "Peter Mayer Day in Somerville, NJ."

Saturday night's concert marked the tenth year Mayer has come to URC to perform with his band of six musicians, each year donating a portion of the proceeds to Somerset County organizations.

"Stars and Promises" tours each year for a month leading up to the Christmas season.

Over the past 10 years Mayer, lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefer Band, and his band have raised thousands of dollars for various non-profit agencies in Somerset County. The 2017 beneficiaries are the Somerville Educational Foundation (SEF) to provide funds for creative and innovative programs in the areas of art, theater, and music for students of the Somerville Public Schools and the Ray Bateman Scholarship for Somerville students planning on attending Raritan Valley Community College and majoring in the arts.

The 2017 Stars and Promises theme, “When You Come Home,” featured a collection of traditional carols, original songs, and stories which celebrate the Christmas season when families come together, Mayer noted,  from near and far to share gifts of peace, joy, faith and love.

Mayer is one of eight children who grew up with their missionary parents in India.
