MILLTOWN, NJ - The borough will be holding its second New Jersey Clean Communities Event on Saturday, October 7 from 8:30 a.m. until noon and is calling all civic-minded volunteers, looking to earn community service hours, extra credit or simply to lend a hand to spruce up Milltown's parks for the upcoming fall season.
Projects on tap will be painting pavement and picnic tables, planting perennials, clean up and more. Gloves, garbage bags and recycling containers will be provided. Volunteers will enjoy beverages and snacks.
Interested volunteers can contact Councilwoman Doriann Kerber by email at email@example.com or by telephone at 732-754-9252 to register.
Volunteers will meet at the Milltown Borough Hall, which is located at 39 Washington Avenue, on October 7 to sign in and pick up supplies.
The park beautification endeavor also welcomes donations of plants and perennials.
In July, Milltown held its first New Jersey Clean Communities Event. Thirty-two volunteers pitched in and collected 37 bags of trash and recyclables from Milltown parks and open space areas.
New Jersey Clean Communities events are made possible by the Clean Communities Act, which was passed in 1986. The act is an all-inclusive, liter reduction program that is aimed at cleaning up towns throughout the state. It is administered by the Clean Communities Council that also overseas other statewide cleanup endeavors like the Adopt-a-Beach and Adopt-a-Highway programs.
