MILLTOWN, NJ - There may not have been a Patriotic House contest for Independence Day 2020, but that did not stop Garret Conger and his fiancé Elisa Salvemini from decorating their home in the red, white and blue style that has helped them win the borough's title for the past two summers. Conger's home is right next to the finish line of the Firecracker 5K and is well known among runners for the spread the couple puts out to greet participants at the finish.

This year's Milltown Firecracker 5K was run virtually, but a group of about 30 runners set off at the usual start time of the annual race just like a normal on Fourth of July morning. When word got to Conger through social media that people were still lacing up the sneakers for the annual race, he got out the table and set it up with water and other treats for the participants. The former member of the Spotswood High School track team even gave out medals to the finishers.

A Milltown Firecracker 5K would not be complete without borough native Kyle Price jumping over the finish line. The Athletic Administrator and head track coach at Caldwell University has won the annual July 4 race for the past several years. He ran the course of the Firecracker 5K this morning, crossing the virtual finish line with his signature leap right in front of the home of his old Chargers teammate.
