MILLTOWN, NJ - The borough's Utility Department will begin hydrant flushing on Tuesday, September 29. Flushing will be done during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. According to information posted on the Milltown Borough website, hydrant flushing is a requirement from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The process helps to maintain the water system by removing sediment and iron oxide from piping.
Residents may notice a discoloration of water while the process is being completed. According to posted information, the discoloration is not harmful. However, it is not recommended that residents do laundry while the flushing is taking place in their neighborhood. The Utility Department will continue the flushing process daily until the process is completed.
