MILLTOWN, NJ - Kyle Price was the first to cross the finish line again for this year's Firecracker 5K. Price finished with a time of 17:06.6. The Milltown native has won the race for the past several years and also serves as an assistant coach for the Spotswood High School track program. Price ran his first ever Boston Marathon back in April, placing 154 in a field of over 30,000 runners.

At the award ceremony after the race, Price took a few moments to thank his former track coach at Spotswood High School, Roland D'Orvilliers. D'Orvilliers retired from the Spotswood School District at the end of June. However, he will still be staying on to coach the boys and girls cross country as well as the winter and spring track teams.

"There are a lot of people wearing yellow shirts today," Price said after the race. "And there are even more kids peppered in the crowd that are students of his right now. He's (D'Orvilliers) retiring from Spotswood this year and we just wanted to give him a little send off. He's still coaching though. We can't keep him away from that!"

Price and many of his fellow Spotswood High School track alumni sported yellow tees after finishing the annual Fourth of July race with a tribute to D'Orvilliers on the front. D'Orvilliers' son Michael finished sixth in the Firecracker 5K with a time of 18:22.2.

Bradley Kilheeney of North Brunswick was the second overall finished with a time of 17:50.3 while East Brunswick's Kenny Mohs was third with a time of 17:58.2. Lauren Kroepfl of Trenton was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 19:26.1. Parlin's Shannon McKenna was the second woman to finish. McKenna had a time of 19:48.8. Spotswood's Cassandra Raia was the third woman finisher. Raia finished with a time of 20:44.3 and is former runner for D'Orvilliers.

The Firecracker 5K and one-mile Fun Run was the second event of the day for Milltown's Fourth of July celebration. The Fishing Derby at Mill Pond got the day started bright and early at 6 p.m. This morning's July 4 race was followed by the borough's annual parade. The borough announced late in the afternoon that the final event of the day, the fireworks display, was canceled because the fireworks company contracted by the borough did not deliver the fireworks.
