EDISON, NJ - A confirmed homicide/suicide event occurred yesterday in Edison that involved a father and son in the home they shared.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department announced today that police are investigating a shooting in which an Edison man apparently shot and killed his son, and then killed himself, says a release issued by the Prosecutor's Office today.
Jeremy Larence, 39, of Loeb Court, Edison, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:46 p.m. on April 22, 2018. He apparently was fatally shot by his father inside their residence.
Also pronounced dead at the scene was, Gerald Larence, 71, who apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation by Detective Joseph Kenny of the Edison Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Gerald Larence shot and killed his son before shooting himself. The handgun was recovered from the scene, say police.
Police responded to the residence after receiving a call from a concerned family member.
Autopsies performed today by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Jeremy Larence died from a gunshot wound to the head, manner of death homicide, and Gerald Larence died from a gunshot wound to the head, manner of death suicide.
