LEXINGTON, Ky. — Devin Ryan of Long Valley, N.J. and McLain Ward, of Brewster, N.J. are among the definite entries for the NetJets U.S. Jumping Team for the FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) Tryon 2018.
Led by Chef d’Equipe Robert Ridland, the show jumping competition kicks off on Sept. 19 and will conclude on Sept. 23, the last event of the games.
Devin Ryan will ride Eddie Blue, LL Show Jumpers LLC’s nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding.
Ward will take Clinta, the 11-year-old Oldenburg mare he owns with Sagamore Farms.
In consultation with his supporters, owners, and Chef d’ Equipe Robert Ridland, Ward chose Clinta as his mount for the WEG. His longtime international partner and 2017 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final Champion, HH Azur, sustained a minor injury following competition at the 2018 World Equestrian Festival CHIO Aachen. In the best interest of “Annie,” the decision was made for Ward to compete with Clinta at the WEG.
Joining Ryan and Ward are Laura Kraut (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) with Zeremonie, Old Willow Farms LLC’s 11-year-old Holsteiner mare and Adrienne Sternlicht (Greenwich, Conn.) with Cristalline, Starlight Farms LLC’s nine-year-old Bavarian Warmblood mare.
Beezie Madden (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Darry Lou, Abigail Wexner’s 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion, will serve as the reserve combination for the NetJets U.S. Jumping Team.
The FEI World Equestrian Games™, held every four years in the middle of the Olympic cycle, is one of the biggest events on the global sporting calendar, combining eight equestrian World Championship caliber events in a pre-determined location. The FEI disciplines – Jumping, Dressage and Para-Equestrian Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Endurance, Vaulting and Reining – are all included on the competition schedule, while equestrian-focused demonstrations and exhibitions will also be hosted throughout the duration of the event. The 2018 edition of the FEI World Equestrian Games™ will be held in Mill Spring, NC, over thirteen days from September 11-23rd, 2018 at Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Opening ceremonies will be held Sept. 11. At 6 p.m. Competition kicks off with endurance, dressage and reining on Sept. 12.
