Nick Vincelli Helps Power Spotswood Over Dunellen

DUNELLEN, NJ - After a surprising first round loss to Old Bridge High School in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament, the Spotswood High School varsity baseball team bounced back with an 11-0 shutout over Dunellen High School on Friday, May 19. Nick Vincelli had the hot bat, going four-for-four with a homerun and four RBIs. The junior also scored three runs in the victory.

Ryan Szatkowski was two-for-three with two RBIs. Szatkowski also pitched two innings, allowing only one hit and striking out one. Matt Vento was one-for-two at the plate with two RBIs. The sophomore also earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings. Vento allowed one hit as well and struck out two.

Mike Harmon, Kenny Tunison and Noah Wenzel all spent time on the mound for Dunellen, giving up a combined 11 runs on 12 hits. Tunison was tabbed for the loss.

The win improves Spotswood's impressive overall record to 18-4. The Chargers are the third seed in the Central Jersey Group Two NJSIAA Tournament. Tournament seedings were announced at noon yesterday. The Chargers will take on fourth seeded Newark Tech at the Spotswood High School Varsity Baseball Field on Monday, May 22. First pitch is at 4 p.m. Newark Tech has an overall record of 11-10 and a league record of 6-5.

Weather permitting, the Chargers will hit the field today at 11 a.m. for a home game against Ewing High School.
