SOUTH RIVER, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity baseball team completed the home-at-home sweep over South River High School with a 9-3 win on Friday, April 28. Vincelli was three-for-five with a homerun and a double. The junior drove in two RBIs and also scored three runs in the Chargers' victory. JT Vento was two-for-four with a solo home run. Mike Izzo and Matt Vento were both two-for-four with a double. Vento also got the win on the mound, pitching six innings. The sophomore allowed only four hits and struck out seven. Chris Auceillo closed out the game for Spotswood, allowing one run on four hits.
RJ Fischer, Billy Marlow and Tyler Szerszen all spent time on the mound for the Rams, giving up a combined nine runs on ten hits. Fischer was charged with the loss. Billy Drum hit a double for South River and earned two RBIs. Nick Razzano was three-for-three for the Rams with one RBI.
The win over South River is Spotswood's twelfth victory in a row. They have an overall record of 14-2 and are undefeated in league play with a 10-0 record. Spotswood is first in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division. Middlesex is second with a 9-1 record while South River is last with a league record of 1-8.
The Chargers will look to keep the streak alive against Middlesex High School on Monday, May 1. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
