HELMETTA/SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The New Jersey Forest Service will be conducting a controlled burn on Thursday, March 14 in the area on Helmetta Boulevard and Old Stage Road. The New Jersey Forest Service is a division of the state's Department of Environmental Protection. Their primary purpose is to protect lives as well as property in the Garden State from wildfires. Another element of the agency's duties is forest management. Controlled burns are often utilized in order to minimize the risk of wildfires as well as to improve the overall habitat for wildlife native to the area. Spotswood and Helmetta residents can expect to see visible smoke in the area of Helmetta Boulevard and Old Stage Road throughout the day on Thursday.
