The Jersey Avenue location is an unidentified large warehouse type facility according to police.

Several men armed with a handgun assaulted an unarmed security guard and attempted to steal merchandise from the facility, according to police.

The assaulted security guard was able to escape from the scene and called the police, who quickly arrived at the facility, according to police.

Two suspects retreated back into the warehouse and police set up a perimeter and called in the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) to clear the building, according to police. The two suspects were located and taken into custody unharmed during SORT's search of the building, according to police.

One of the suspects alluded capture at the scene and fled northbound on Jersey Avenue in a box truck type vehicle, according to police. Officers chased the vehicle into New Brunswick where it eventually crashed and the driver fled on foot, according to police.

Units were able to capture the suspect after a subsequent foot pursuit, according to police.

Police say all suspects are believed to be in custody and that they were transported to the Middlesex County Department of Corrections pending Court proceedings.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information should call North Brunswick Detectives at 732-247-0922 x420.
