SPOTSWOOD, NJ - After a scoreless first half, North Plainfield High School's Shaniya O'Neal netted the only goal of the game on a pass from Anne Joseph, knocking the sixth seeded Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team out of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Two Tournament in the first round. Jenna Guevara made nine saves for the Canucks while Julia Masucci made nine saves for the Chargers.

Eleventh seeded North Plainfield will move on to the quarterfinals of the state tournament where they will face third seeded Bernards High School. Bernards defeated fourteenth seeded Carteret High School 7-0 in their first round matchup.

The Chargers conclude the 2017 soccer season with an overall record of 10-6-2. They were 5-3-2 in conference play. Spotswood finished second in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division behind Metuchen High School. The Bulldogs claimed the Blue Division crown with a 10-0 record in conference play.
