SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Prosecutors Office is investigating Saturday night’s robbery at the West End Avenue Shell Station and two other similar incidents that occurred in Bridgewater and North Plainfield, all within two hours.

The prosecutor’s office and local police would not comment because of the fluid nature of the ongoing investigation.

An official statement is expected from Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano sometime Monday, according to a spokesman.

The first reported robbery occurred at the BP gas station, 1240 Route 22 in Bridgewater around 8:30 p.m. at knifepoint. That incident was followed closely by the robbery at the Shell gas station in Somerville at 176 West End Ave. around 9 p.m.

An attendant was assaulted at the Shell Station and an unknown amount of cash was stolen.

Witnesses said two suspects ran towards the Somerville traffic circle; a tracking dog from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department was requested to assist in the search for the assailants.

A third incident unfolded in North Plainfield one hour later which involved a foot pursuit of two individuals along the Green Brook, near Duer Street and in the vicinity of North Plainfield High School, reportedly after the pair was spotted at a Route 22 gas station at Rock Avenue.

No other details were available.
