PISCATAWAY, NJ – A car chase on Hoes Lane resulted in two funerals being disrupted in Resurrection Cemetery early Wednesday afternoon.

Piscataway Police chased a suspect who was driving a white late 90’s model Honda Accord and entered the burial grounds while one funeral service was underway and another being forced to stage in a nearby location according to the cemetery’s director, Mary Ellen Gerrity.

The car was forced to a stop on top of grave sites after four police units boxed it in. Significant damage to both the suspect’s vehicle and the grave sites could be seen from Hoes Lane.

A Piscataway Police Nixle Alert went out just before noon advising motorists to avoid the area around Hoes Lane and Morris Ave., and local residents were told to stay in their homes. Brief traffic delays were reported due to the incident.

An updated alert later stated a male subject was apprehended and placed under arrest while inside the cemetery.

The cemetery, part of Catholic Cemeteries in the Diocese of Metuchen was closed to visitors due to the investigation.

Piscataway Police referred TAPinto Piscataway to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office which is investigating the incident. Calls for more information have not yet been returned.
