FRANKLIN PARK, NJ – A 59-year-old township man died Monday night after being struck by a box truck near the Stop and Shop loading dock, police said.
According to police, officers were called to an area near the Stop and Shop loading dock at 3333 Route 27 at 7:52 p.m. Monday night to investigate a report of a struck pedestrian.
Officers found Green Hill Manor Drive resident Anthony Bartolotta, 59, unconscious and unresponsive.
Bartolotta was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2010 International box truck, operated by Thomas Wirsing, 57, of Kinnelon, was traveling south on Old Stage Road before turning into the rear of the shopping center, police said.
Investigators from the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team are determining the factors leading up to the accident, police said.
