Registration Open For Milltown Firecracker 5K

MILLTOWN, NJ - Lace up the sneakers for the annual Firecracker 5K. This popular July 4 road race is an Independence Day tradition. Registration is open and runners registering before June 16 will receive a discounted rate and a guaranteed t-shirt. The race is in its 37th year and the course is a certified USATF race with chip-timed results. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age group as well as prizes for top borough finishers. There is a maximum of one award per runner.

The event also includes a one-mile Fun Run kicking off at 7:45 a.m. The 5K follows at 8:10 a.m. The cost for the Fun Run is $7 prior to June 16 and $10 after while the fee for the 5K is $25 before June 16 and $30 after. Both races will be held on July 4, rain or shine.

Fun Run participants under the age of 14 receive a medal. T-shirts are guaranteed to 5k participants who register prior to June 16. Registration is open for both races and can be done online. Race day registrations are accepted though online registration in strongly recommended. Runners can also email Joe Walsh at walsh7250@gmail to request an application, which can be filled out and mailed along with payment to the borough's Knight of Columbus.

After the race, runners can stay to enjoy a full-day of Fourth of July events, including a parade, rides, inflatables, contests, music, vendors and evening fireworks.

Milltown native and Spotswood High School alumnus Kyle Price won both the 2016 and 2017 Firecracker 5K's. Price also ran in this year's Boston Marathon.
