SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Schoenly School first graders took over the stage of the Spotswood High School Cafetorium on May 23 for the school's annual Spring Concert. The first graders were the last of the Spotswood School District's schools to highlight the arts with a May concert.
Schoenly School Music teacher Carl Beck led the first graders in a medley of selections from spirituals like "I Got Shoes" to the eternal classic "Take Me Out To The Ball Game." Trios of students introduced each song with many like the adorable "Shadow Free" including hand movements. The first graders performed 11 numbers spotlighting various learning units throughout the school year such as Teresa Jennings' "Free At Last" and John Riggio's "One Hundred Days."
Jennifer Kardos, Schoenly's Art teacher showcased her students' creative endeavors in the high school lobby. Parents and families had the opportunity to enjoy the colorful and crafty art display before or after the show.
With June just around the corner, the first graders will be looking forward to their upcoming Field Day as well as a trip to the Appleby School where they will get a close up look at the elementary school's second grade classrooms.
June 20 is the last day of school in the Spotswood School District.
