SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A second suspect connected to a shooting that happened at the Royal Oaks Apartment Complex in Monmouth Junction was arrested on Wednesday, according to South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka and Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. Jayvin Almestica, 20, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was arrested in Dover, Delaware last week and extradited to New Jersey on July 29. He will face first degree murder charges, according to the press release.
On July 11, South Brunswick police responded to a shooting at the apartment complex, an 18-yea- old from Monmouth Junction was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital to be treated for a gun wound. South Brunswick police arrested Jahmil Alvarez, age 19 from Monmouth Junction, was arrested on July 12 in connection with the shooting. Alvarez was charged with first degree murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.
“Gun violence is rare in our community, and I am thankful we have quickly tracked down those responsible,” Police Chief Hayducka said in the press release, “I also want to thank Prosecutor Ciccone and her office for all their assistance.”

The motivations behind the shooting are still unknown. Almestica is currently at the Middlesex County Correctional Center depending on a detention hearing, according to the press release.
