SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Somerville High School Pioneer Marching Band finished their 2017 competition season with 3rd place finishes at both the Yamaha Cup held at MetLife Stadium, and the NJ State Championships at Rutgers University.

Their fall schedule included 3 additional competitions in which they finished in 1st Place, winning all captions.

The color guard earned the caption of “Best Color Guard” in all 5 of the competitions.

The show performed by the Somerville HS Pioneers was entitled “Outside the Bachs”. Band director Matt Krempasky describes the show as “The music of Johann Sebastian Bach, done in our own unique style.  Toccata and Fugue, Sheep May Safely Graze, Concerto for Two Violins, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, and the Minuet in G all make their appearance in one unexpected way or another.”

The marching band was led by Drum Majors Erin Buttgereit and Jeffrey Uy, totaled 120 members and included: 27 color guard, 73 winds and brass, 17 Drumline and pit, and 3 sound techs.

The band’s competition season ended in October, however, the Color Guard will compete in the Winter Guard Scholastic World Guard and Scholastic Regional A Guard competition seasons starting in January.

The Marching Band under Krempasky, also includes assistant Director Stephen Loreti. The color guard is under the direction of Joe Harris, Jay Drake, Cindy Wong and Amy Sutphen. Percussion is under the direction of Joseph LaVecchia and Meghan Major. Visual is assisted by Taylor Rehe and Jeremy San Jose.
