SOMERVILLE, NJ - A borough resident crossing East Main Street near the intersection of Loeser Avenue was struck by a car and later died at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick Saturday night.

The victim, 62-year-old Charles Evans II of Fairview Avenue, was hit by a car driven by 46-year-old South Bound Brook resident Todd Sarboukh, according to Somerville Police Traffic Safety Officer John Covert. The driver was uninjured.

Evans was crossing to the south side of East Main Street shortly after 9 p.m. when he was struck by the left front fender of Sarboukh's vehicle, according to Covert. The roadway was wet and there was a slight mist in the air at the time of the accident, but it is unknown whether either was a contributing factor, Covert said.
