SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A bat found in Monmouth Junction has tested positive for rabies, officials said Tuesday.

According to police, the South Brunswick Health Department was notified Aug. 14 by the New Jersey State Health Department that a bat submitted for testing was found to be positive for Rabies.

This bat was found in the vicinity of Blackhorse Lane and Henderson Road in Monmouth Junction, officials said.

The Health Department recommends residents take the following preventative measures:

  • Vaccinate all pets against rabies and keep vaccinations current.
  • Report unusual behavior of stray or wild animals to South Brunswick Animal Control.
  • Never feed or touch wild animals and avoid contact with stray pets.
  • Immediately report any bite from wildlife as well as from domestic pets to the South Brunswick Health Department at (732) 329-4000 ext. 7237 during business hours or to the South Brunswick Police Department (732) 329-4646 nights, weekends, and holidays.
