SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A 65-year-old Middlesex County woman was killed crossing Route 1 at Deans Lane Thursday night, police said.
The unidentified woman was crossing the northbound lanes of Route 1 at 9:56 p.m. when she was struck and killed by a 2016 Subaru Impreza, driven by a 30-year-old unidentified Piscataway man, South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said in a joint press release with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office Friday afternoon.
The driver stopped after hitting the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics, Monmouth Junction Fire Department, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the call, the release said.
Police said that no charges have been filed in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing by South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Officer Jesse Blake and detectives from the prosecutor’s office.
Route 1 northbound was closed at Beekman Lane until around 3 a.m. due to the investigation, police said.
