SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Between six and seven people were injured, several seriously, following a head-on collision at the Route 1 and New Road intersection Thursday night.

Police Capt. Jim Ryan said that a family from Texas in a grey sedan was traveling south on Route 1 to visit relatives that live on the east side of New Road from Route 1.

The family had traveled to South Brunswick from upstate New York and tried to make a left turn at the intersection at 9:10 p.m., Ryan said.

Their sedan then crashed head-on into a white sedan heading north on Route 1.

The impact spun both cars around, sending the white car across the eastbound lanes of New Road, and the grey sedan crushed against the concrete divider in the left lane of Route 1 north.

The Texan family had four occupants in the car, Ryan said, while the white car had at least two occupants.

He said he was not sure if the white car had a third occupant.

The cash closed Route 1 northbound for several hours as workers cleared the scene and police investigated.

Six people were taken by several ambulances to Robert Wood Johnson university Hospital in New Brunswick, several with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Ryan said.

One of the victims was a juvenile, Ryan said.

As of Thursday night, police did not release the identities of the victims.

We will update the story as more information becomes available.

The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
