SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood Police Department, in conjunction with the Helmetta Police Department, will be hosting the 2016 National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2 at the Municipal Building from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Area residents are invited to come to the annual event that began in 1984. National Night Out was organized to form a partnership between both the police and communities to help in the prevention of crime. The idea has evolved over the years and grown in scope from the 400 communities nationwide that participated in the inaugural National Night Out to the more than 9,000 that do today.
The SPD and the HPD are encouraging folks to "join us as we gather our community to take a stand against crime and strengthen the bonds between our police department, boro residents and local businesses." This is the first year the two departments are pooling their resources to hold a joint event.
Festivities will include inflatable rides, food, music, giveaways and games. There will also be displays from emergency services as well as other county and community organizations.
The evening's entertainment will be provided by DJWW Enterprises, including DJ "Wacky Wayne" Handwerk.
The Spotswood Municipal Building is located at 77 Summerhill Road.
