BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ - After sharing the 2019 Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division title with South Plainfield High School, the Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer team headed down the shore on Saturday morning to take on Brick Memorial High School in a non-conference matchup. The two teams played to a 2-2 tie. Yanni Hatzistefanis netted both Chargers goals and Jimmie Goodman and Daniel Gerard scored for Brick. Joseph Liberatore earned an assist for Brick. Spotswood's Andrew Bishara was very busy in net for the Chargers, making 20 saves in the tie. Richard Kijack stopped five Chargers' shots.
The preliminary round of the Greater Middlesex Conference Boys Soccer Tournament begins on Tuesday, October 15. Spotswood is the 11th seed and awaits the result of this weekend's play-in round to determine their opponent. The Chargers will host the winner of the St. Thomas Aquinas and JFK matchup. St. Thomas is the 27th seed and JFK is the 22nd seed. Thirty-two teams make up the tournament. Monroe High School is the top seed. The top eight seeds will not play until the first round of the tournament.
