Spotswood Boys Varsity Basketball Defeats Dunellen

DUNELLEN, NJ - It was Senior Night on the court for Dunellen High School, however, it was all about the Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team on the scoreboard. The Chargers took a 44-20 lead into the halftime break and didn't look back as they won only their seventh game of the 2016-17 season.

Andrew Fuzesi netted a game-high 28 points in the victory that improved the Chargers overall season record to 7-19. Justin Dekovics scored 15 points, including three three-pointers while Abdullah Nieskens added 12 points. Sophomore Matt Vento put up 11 on the board for Spotswood.

While the Destroyers were not successful pulling out the win on Senior Night, senior Oscar Caballero had a big game nevertheless. Caballero netted 20 points, including two three-pointers and also had five assists for Dunellen. Tyje Kelton earned a double-double with his 13 points and 11 rebounds while Jibril Hagood-Henry added 10 points for Dunellen.

The Chargers concluded their regular season against Dunellen and have a few practice days to prepare for their first round matchup in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Two Tournament. Spotswood is the 16th seed in the tournament and will be taking on top seeded Rumson-Fair Haven High School on Monday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in Rumson. Rumson-Fair Haven has an overall record of 20-2 for the season and is 12-0 in conference play.
