SPOTSWOOD, NJ - After four straight loses, the Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team earned a much-needed win on the court, defeating the Timothy Christian School, 74-63. The Chargers took a 42-25 lead into the halftime break. However, the Tigers roared back in the second half, outscoring Spotswood 38-32 in the final two quarters. Twenty-four combined points in the third and fourth quarters by seniors Andrew Fuzesi and JT Vento kept the Tigers' comeback from turning into a loss for Spotswood.
Both Fuzesi and Vento netted 20 points in the Charger victory, which moved the team's overall record to 5-9 for the season. They are 1-4 in conference play. Abdullah Nieskens scored 15 for Spotswood while Vinnie Guardiola chipped in nine. The Tigers' William Clemons scored a game-high 24 points for Timothy Christian. Robert Saydee added 16 points for the Piscataway based school that houses grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth.
The Chargers will look to add to the season's win total against Delaware Valley Regional High School on Monday, January 23. Tip off is at 7 p.m. in Frenchtown.
