SPOTSWOOD, NJ - A rainy, gray week in the Garden State forced the cancellation of many high school games, including Spotswood High School varsity baseball team's home-at-home series with rival South River High School. The Chargers and Rams were finally able to hit the field on Thursday, April 27, resulting in Spotswood's eleventh win in a row. Spotswood defeated South River 4-2 to improve their overall record on the season to 13-2. The Chargers are undefeated in league play with a 9-0 record and sit atop the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division in first place.
Matthew Ciaccio got the win on the mound for the Chargers, pitching six and two-thirds innings. Ciaccio gave up two runs on six hits and struck out two. Chris Auciello closed out the game for Spotswood. Nick Errico took the loss for the Rams, pitching six innings and giving up nine hits. Errico struck out one batter.
Brandon Szerszen was two-for-four for South River with a homerun and one RBI. Louis Sasso was one-for-three for the Rams with one RBI. Mike Izzo had three RBIs for Spotswood, including a homerun. Nick Mohr was two-for-three for Spotswood while Matt Vento was one-for-three with a double and one RBI. Nick Vincelli also was one-for-three with a double and a one RBI.
Spotswood with travel to South River this afternoon to close out the home-at-home series. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
