CLARK, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity softball team was bounced by eighth seeded Arthur L. Johnson High School on Thursday in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Two Softball Tournament 11-0. Ninth seeded Spotswood only managed one hit off of Nicole Pecoraro. Pecoraro gave up one hit in five innings of work and struck out five batters. Johnson had two homeruns from Victoria Zatko and doubles from Hannah Brogan, Lia D'Angelo, Lauren Kelly and Megan Tinger to nail down the win.

Johnson moves on in the tournament to face top seeded Bordentown High School on Monday. Bordentown High School defeated East Brunswick Tech 16-0. The loss drops Spotswood's overall record on the season to 12-9. Spotswood has a 7-4 conference record. The Chargers will play in the semifinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Invitational Tournament today. Spotswood takes the field against East Brunswick High School at 2 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Softball Field. The Bears are 3-18 on the season and defeated Mother Seton 15-5 to move into the seminals of the county invitational tournament. Spotswood previously defeated the Bears 6-4 in April.
