SOUTH RIVER, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team shut out rival South River High School yesterday on a goal by Carolina Fernandez. Fernandez scored on a pass from Alexa Reilly. The junior now has 19 goals on the season and five assists.

Their win improves the Chargers' overall record on the season to 10-5-2. Julia Masucci made seven saves to earn the shutout. Tori Pinto made nine saves for the Rams.

The Chargers are currently second in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division and will travel to Highland Park High School on Friday to take on the Owls at 4 pm. Their quest for a run in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Two Soccer Tournament will begin on Monday, October 30 when the sixth seeded Chargers take on eleventh seeded North Plainfield High School at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. North Plainfield is 4-10 on the season. The two teams have not faced each other this fall.
