EDISON, NJ - After a scoreless first half, Spotswood High School junior Carolina Fernandez found herself on a breakaway in the 63 minute of the game against the Wardlaw-Hartridge High School girls varsity soccer team. Fernandez buried the ball past Hannah Yates for the Chargers only goal of the game. Freshman Bella Wysocki knotted the contest only six minutes later on a direct free kick, putting the ball past Spotswood's Julia Masucci.
That's how the game would end; a 1-1 tie between the two teams. Yates made four saves in the game for the Rams while Masucci made 10 saves for the Chargers.
The tie improves Spotswood's overall record to 5-2-2. Their conference record is 4-2-2. The Chargers are currently second in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division behind undefeated Metuchen High School. The Bulldogs dealt the Chargers their only loss of the season, shutting out Spotswood 2-0.
The two teams will have a rematch on Friday, October 6 at 4 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. Metuchen is 9-0 in conference play and holds an 11-0 record on the season. Game time is 4 p.m.
