ROSELLE PARK, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls varsity tennis team was eliminated from the NJSIAA Central Jersey East Group One Tennis Tournament in the first round by eighth seeded Roselle Park High School on Tuesday. Roselle Park defeated ninth seeded Spotswood 3-2. The Chargers Cyanne Chan and Kate Acheampong lost hard-fought three set singles matches. Spotswood's Axelle Lemiere and the second doubles team of Lindsey Michaels and Chloe Donelan earned the two match points for Spotswood. The Panthers move on in the tournament to face top seeded New Providence High School today weather permitting.

Chan lost the first set of her first singles match to Rachel Leone, 6-4, but bounced back to take the second set, 6-2. Leone took the deciding set 6-3. Lemiere defeated Isabel Paiva, (6-0, 6-1), to win her second singles match. Acheampong won the first set of her third singles match with Harleen Randhawa, 6-3. Randhawa rallied back to take the second set 6-4. The third set was knotted at six games each, before the match was decided by a tiebreaker. Randhawa came out on top in the tiebreaker, 8-6, to win the match.

Melody Dzergoski and Angelina Moschella lost their first doubles match to Alison Chabla and Ny-Aziah Valle, (6-1, 6-1). Michaels and Donelan defeated Pavana Manoj and Isabel Lopez (6-4, 6-1).

The loss moves Spotswood's overall shortened season record to 5-3. Spotswood is back on the court today when the team travels to Middlesex High School to play the Blue Jays. Matches begin at 4 p.m. if Mother Nature permits.
