SOUTH RIVER, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls varsity basketball team earned its second straight victory, defeating South River High School 48-45. The Chargers started off the game by holding the Rams to only seven first quarter points. By the halftime break, Spotswood held a five point lead over their divisional rivals.
South River would open the second half by keeping Spotswood off the scoreboard for most of the third quarter. However, the momentum switched in the pivotal fourth with the Chargers once again taking control of the scoreboard, keeping the Rams to only eight points.
South River's Tara Beachem was the high scorer in the game, netting 18. Sonia Guiste scored 15 for the Rams. Courtney Potter was Spotswood's top scorer with 14 points. Sophomore Jessica Addesso scored nine while Erin Malin added eight. Savannah Robinson netted seven points and Sarah Marotta chipped in six.
Their victory gives Spotswood a 2-0 overall record on the 2017-18 basketball season. They are also 2-0 in division play. The Chargers will play their first home game on Wednesday, December 20 when they take on Mother Seton High School at the Spotswood High School Gymnasium. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
