MIDDLETOWN, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls varsity basketball team lost to Middletown South High School on Wednesday, 46-24. Kayla Richardson was the game's top scorer, netting nine points for the Eagles. Gabby Cook added eight points for Middletown South while both Stephanie Mayerhofer and Eve Pirie chipped in seven.

Maddie Hellerich was Spotswood's top scorer with seven points. Hellerich also grabbed 11 rebounds and had four steals. Sarah Marotta added five points while Savannah Robinson scored three. Paige Dadika, Erin Malin, Amber Meagher and Courtney Potter all chipped in two. Potter pulled down five rebounds while Malin had five blocks.

The loss drops Spotswood's overall record to 16-8. Spotswood will travel to Clark on Friday to take on Arthur L. Johnson High School. Tip off is at 4 p.m.

The Chargers will take the court for the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Two Tournament on February 27. The Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division co-champions are the fifth seed in the tournament. Spotswood will go head to head with their division rival, South River High School. The Rams are the 12th seed in the state tournament. Spotswood won both meetings with South River this season.
