HAZLET, NJ - The Spotwood High School girls varsity tennis team won its first-round match in the NJSIAA Tournament, beating Raritan, 3-2. The Chargers are competing in the Central Jersey, Group Two bracket.
Taylor Latimer won her first singles match in straight sets over Aneesha Doshi, 6-3, 6-4. Katie Rivera lost a tough three set contest to Amanda Butler. Butler took the first set, 6-4. Rivera rallied back to grab the second set, 6-1, but lost the decisive third set to Butler, 6-3. Kaylie Witt lost a hard-fought third singles match to Chloe Quinto, 7-5, 6-4.
Both doubles teams came through with a win to put the Chargers into the second round of the NJSIAA Tournament.
The first doubles team of Alexandra Tennill and Jenna Bousellam defeated Madelynn Fanelli and Danielle Freda, 6-1, 6-2. Devin Ryan and Isabella Santiago beat Annie Mehdi and Alexis Amore, 7-5, 6-4.
Spotswood will now face Cranford in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday, October 7 with a location and time to be determined.
