Spotswood High School Winter Athletes Honored for Their Contributions

SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Spotswood High School winter athletes were honored for their accomplishments on Monday, March 20.

The winter sports season featured varsity and junior varsity teams in wrestling, basketball and winter track. This winter season was also highlighted by varsity cheerleading. Athletic director Bill Visokay started off the festivities before handing over the microphone to his winter coaching staff.

"We have a very special group of people here this evening who have a rare ability to enter a child's mind," Visokay said of his winter coaching staff. "It's as if their ability to get there gives them the right to stay forever. So it is to the entire winter coaching staff for their attempt to positively impact the lives of our student athletes I would like to sincerely say thank you. I believe you folks are the best in the GMC and some of the best people around in the state of New Jersey."

Due to the large number of athletes, each sport enjoyed an individual banquet after the initial presentation in the Spotswood High School gymnasium. The presentation in the gym included awards for the winter athletes of the month and season.

Winter Senior Athletes of the Month

  • December - Matteo Tavella and Elizabeth Vignuolo
  • January - Kristen Wilczewski and Thomas Wells
  • February - Cassandra Raia and Justin Paguiligan

Robinson and Grover were named Athletes of the Winter Season. Robinson claimed the 55-meter hurdle crown at the NJSIAA Sectional Girls Winter Track Championships. Grover was a three-year varsity letter winner for the wrestling squad and had a 13-3 record for the 2016-17 season with seven pins.

The Spotswood High School spring sports season gets underway on Monday, April 3. Athletes will be competing in baseball, softball, boys tennis, track and field as well as golf during the upcoming spring season.
