SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The 40-day observance of Lent began on March 1 for local Christians and will conclude on Thursday, April 13. Many Lent observers will abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, the official first day of Lent, Good Friday and each Friday during Lent. To help residents with Friday meal-planning during Lent, the Spotswood Knights of Columbus is offering Friday Fish Frys.
The Fish Frys are open to all and are available for to diners to eat in or take out from Friday, March 3 through Friday, April 7 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Weekly fish dinners will feature dishes that showcase flounder, shrimp, haddock or tuna. The price for a dinner is $14 and include a fish entree, potato, soup, salad, sides as well as dessert and coffee or soda.
The March 3 special is pan seared sea scallops with au gratin potatoes. Diners can look forward to other future weekly Fish Fry specials that will include Cajun shrimp and grits with a bang-bang shrimp appetizer, fried haddock and chips with tartar sauce, malt vinegar and pan-seared orange ginger salmon with sautéed zucchini and a lightly-seared tuna taco with Asian slaw and cilantro lime cream.
