BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - It was Bernards High School's home opener and the Mountaineers had all the highlights, defeating Spotswood High School 44-0 on the gridiron in a Friday night game. Joey Billoti had three touchdowns for Bernards who took a 28-0 lead into the halftime break. The lopsided loss was the second of the young season for the Chargers who lost the team's first game of the season 54-0 to Hillside High School. Last week, Spotswood broke out to a quick lead over rival South River High School to win a 17-14 game on Senior Day.

Friday's loss drops Spotswood's overall record to 1-2. The Chargers are 1-0 in division games. Spotswood hosts Highland Park High School on Saturday, September 28. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. The Owls have not won a game this season, losing the team's first three games to South Hunterdon, Metuchen and Dunellen High Schools. Highland Park won last year's matchup with Spotswood, but before that the Chargers had won the five prior meetings.
