EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Spotswood High School boys varsity baseball team came back to beat Middlesex High School in the preliminary round of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. They staged a similar comeback in their first round game against the second seeded East Brunswick Bears.
The Bears held a commanding 7-1 lead in the second inning. They added another four runs in the fourth. However, the Chargers hung tough and began to chip away at the lead, scoring three runs in the fifth. A seven run sixth would knot the score at 11, forcing extra innings.
East Brunswick would come out on top though, scoring in the bottom of the eighth. The Bears will move on to play South River High School in the quarterfinals of the GMC Tournament on Thursday, May 18 at Community Park. The Rams defeated Sayreville High School 5-4 in their first round game.
