MONROE, NJ - Both the Spotswood High School and Monroe High School girls varsity basketball teams had some difficulty finding their groove on the court on Saturday morning. The first half of the January 28 game saw the Chargers and the Falcons getting off to a slow start. In the end, Spotswood would wake up in the final two quarters to defeat Monroe, 38-29.
The Chargers went into the halftime break with a tight 17-15 lead. However, they opened the third quarter with a 9-1 scoring run. The Chargers took a 10-point lead into the final eight minutes of the game and never looked back. Their win improves Spotswood's overall season record to 10-7. They are 7-4 in conference play.
Monroe's Casey Filiault scored a game-high 13 points for the Falcons while Angela Oskierko chipped in six. Sarah Marotta and Erin Malin were the top point getters for the Chargers with each player netting eight. Mary Beth Barnosky and Savannah Robinson both added six.
Spotswood will travel to Edison on Monday, January 30 to take on JP Stevens High School. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
