SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood Police Department pulled off a major raid at Spotswood High School this week that saved Christmas once again for borough residents. Acting on intelligence reports, a team of SWAT Elves led by the department's youngest officer, Trent Powers conducted the raid in the school's boiler room, apprehending four of the biggest Christmas haters around.

The Grinch, Scrooge, Krampas and the Abominable Snowman were all taken into custody without incident. All four are charged with various degrees of naughtiness that range from impersonating Santa, stealing presents, happiness and even snow. Currently, the Grinch and his villain gang are being held at the Spotswood Police Department.

However, the SPD is asking for residents assistance in helping to grow the Grinch's notoriously small heart and bring the holiday spirit to his fellow Christmas haters.

Chief Michael Zarro and the officers of the Spotswood Police Department are calling all Spotswood residents, especially those that have an abundance of holiday spirit to help them restore the Grinch's Villain Gang's faith and joy in the holiday season. The department has received reliable intelligence that holiday cards, candies, hugs and high fives will help to melt those frozen Christmas spirits.

On Friday, December 15, the Spotswood Police Department's special unit of SWAT Elves will be escorting the Grinch, Krampas, Scrooge and the Abominable Snowman around the borough, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The SPD has posted a Google map for residents wanting to show the Grinch and his naughty pals the true meaning of Christmas. Concerned Christmas lovers can also email questions, comments or statements directly to the SWAT Elves at SPDChristmasVillainIntel@gmail.com.

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (Citadel Press, 1970)

How does a reviewer do justice to a book called “the great American novel”? I first read Johnny Got His Gun during the Viet Nam war, when young people, nationwide, were protesting fighting in a war that was a senseless waste of life; a war in which the United States had no business participating.

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

I didn't get my Composition and Literature teacher at Montclair State College at all. A crusty old man with a dour disposition, Mr. Smith always seemed angry and rude. He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.
