SPOTSWOOD, NJ - For the past two springs, the Spotswood PTA has been hosting its popular Appleby Amazing Race to help Schoenly School first graders transition to the second through fifth grade Appleby School. This year because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event had to be canceled. Instead, the Spotswood PTA is hosting a community-wide Scavenger Hunt and inviting all Schoenly and Appleby School students to participate.

Students simply need to find the items on the PTA's list and email a photograph of each one by Saturday, June 12. The scavenger list items include:

  • A stop sign
  • Fire hydrant
  • Basketball net
  • American flag
  • Police car
  • Construction truck
  • White picket fence
  • Purple flowers
  • Yellow house
  • Bicycle
  • Mailbox
  • Animal
  • Bumper Sticker
  • Lawn sign
  • Insect
  • Something fuzzy
  • Something tall
  • Something wet
  • Something pointy
  • Something smooth

Scavenger Hunt participants are reminded by the Spotswood PTA to take an adult along, to avoid going onto people's properties without permission and to follow the social distancing guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

Since the Spotswood School District went to remote learning in mid-March, the Spotswood PTA has hosted a wide variety of events to help keep students engaged and connected including virtual tricky trays, weekly spirit weeks and more.
