SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity softball team ended their five-game losing streak against Mother Seton High School on Monday, winning 12-2. Spotswood and Mother Seton concluded the first inning knotted at one, taking a 2-1 lead in the third. Eight runs in the fifth inning put the Chargers in command of the scoreboard, earning their first victory since the beginning of the month.

Maddie Chu went the distance for Spotswood on the mound, giving up two runs on four hits. Chu struck out seven batters. Samantha Perrette took the loss for Mother Seton. Tiffany Irwin was 2-for-2 for Spotswood with a double and two RBIs. Brittany Rifenburg was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Savannah Robinson had three hits, one RBI and scored three runs. Georgia Kartelins was 2-for-4 with one RBI while Breanna Socoloski had one hit. Maggie Carney and Katelyn Fisher each had one RBI for Mother Seton.

The win improves Spotswood's overall season record to 4-7. Spotswood is 4-3 in league play. Spotswood will take on South Amboy High School on Tuesday at the Spotswood High School Varsity Softball Field. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
