CARTERET, NJ - It took extra innings to decide the matchup between the Spotswood High School varsity softball team and Carteret High School on April 5. The Ramblers Melody Caces drove in the game-winning run, hitting an RBI single into center field. Caitlyn Murray got the win on the mound for Carteret, giving up six runs on eight hits. Murray walked three and struck out two. She also had a hot bat, going two-for-three with two doubles.
Spotswood led off the game with a five-run first. However, by the fifth, the scoreboard was knotted at five. Carteret pulled ahead in the sixth. Spotswood tied it up in the seventh, forcing the extra inning.
The Chargers Megan Tully cracked a big homerun for Spotswood, driving in three RBIs. Krista Van Wageninge was two-for-four with 1 RBI while Julie Raba was two-for-five. Raba also pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Joey Bartusak pitched three innings for the Chargers, giving up four runs on seven hits.
The loss evened the Chargers early season record at 1-1. Today's, home game against Mother Seton High School was postponed due to the rain.
