SPOTSWOOD, NJ - An anonymous source in the Spotswood School District has confirmed a published report that Spotswood Superintendent Dr. Scott Rocco will be leaving his position in the spring to become the Superintendent of Schools in the Hamilton Township District. Rocco previously left his position as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in the Hillsborough School District to become the superintendent in Spotswood, replacing Dr. Walter Uszenski.

Uszenski resigned from his position in the district in June of 2012 to become the superintendent for the Brick school system. Rocco began his tenure in the Spotswood School District on January 1, 2013 after working in Hillsborough for a little over five years as the assistant superintendent. According to his LinkedIn profile, Rocco was a vice-principal and principal in the Hillsborough District before taking that position.

The Hamilton Township School District has been in the hunt for a superintendent for the past two years. According to their website the Hamiton Township Board of Education will convene a special meeting on Monday, February 6 to appoint a permanent superintendent.

At a BOE meeting on October 14, 2014, the Spotswood Board of Education voted to extend Rocco's contract with the district through June 30, 2019.

“Spotswood has become a second home to me," Rocco stated at the time of his contract extension. "I appreciate the Board of Education extending my contract to continue the educational, technology and facility initiatives started during my first two years. But most of all, I appreciate the opportunity to continue to work with the outstanding teachers, staff, students, parents and community members in Spotswood.”

According to an anonymous source in the Spotswood School District, the system does not currently have a replacement in the works for the superintendent position.

Rocco is scheduled to host a Superintendent's Forum on Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Media Center. The agenda for the forum is the educational issues affecting the students in the district. Residents must RSVP via a form on the district's website to attend the forum.
