SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity baseball team completed a spring break sweep over Metuchen High School with a 5-4 victory on Thursday, April 13. Despite being outhit, 10-8, the Chargers prevailed thanks to the pitching of senior Chris Auciello. Auciello came on in relief of Fred Rago in the fourth. Rago gave up five hits and three runs in four innings of work on the mound.

A costly error by the Bulldogs in the first helped Spotswood jump out to a quick 4-0 lead. However, Metuchen chipped back, putting three runs on the scoreboard in the second inning. With the game knotted at four in the fifth, senior JT Vento drew a crucial walk with the bases packed. Vento's walk brought the game-winning run across the plate. Auciello shut the door for his first win on the mound, retiring the side to seal Spotswood's victory.

Metuchen's Jay Harry was two-for-three while the Bulldogs Sean McCadden had two RBIs. Mike Lapczynski had a big double for Metuchen. Matthew Ciaccio had a double and one RBI for the Chargers while Sal Mistretta was one-for-three with two RBIs.

The sweep over Metuchen improved the Chargers' overall record to 4-2. They are 3-0 in league play. Spotswood will take on Monroe High School on Saturday, April 15 at the Spotswood High School Varsity Baseball Field. First pitch is 10 a.m.
