ISELIN, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity baseball team defeated Iselin-Kennedy High School on Friday, April 7, 5-1, for their second win of the 2017 season. Fred Rago pitched five innings for the Chargers, giving up one earned run and striking out six. Chris Auciello closed out the game, pitching two innings and striking out three batters. Matthew Godlewski pitched five innings for Iselin-Kennedy, giving up four runs on five hits. Godlewski walked four. Zack Schneider pitched two innings for the Mustangs. Schneider struck out three and gave up one run.

Spotswood's Matthew Ciaccio and Nick Vincelli came up with two crucial hits that helped lead the Chargers to victory. Ciaccio smacked a two-run double while Vincelli came up big with a two-run single. Mike Izzo hit two singles for Spotswood while senior JT Vento scored two runs.

The win against Iselin-Kennedy gave Spotswood a 2-0 overall record on the young season. However, South Plainfield High School dealt the Chargers their first loss of 2017 on Saturday, April 8. South Plainfield High School defeated Spotswood, 2-1. Sophomore Matt Vento pitched his first game of the season, giving up one run on five hits for the Chargers. Vinnie Guardiola had two hits in the loss while Vincelli hit a triple. Rob Gonzalez got the win on the mound for South Plainfield.

Spotswood will start off spring break week with a 3:45 away game. The Chargers will travel to Union High School on Monday, April 10.
