SOUTH RIVER, NJ - In a late evening game at Grekowski Park, the Spotswood High School boys varsity baseball team defeated South River, 15-5, in five innings on Monday.

Freshman Matt Vento allowed seven hits on the mound. Four runs were earned. Vento picked up the victory, walking three and striking out three batters. Chris Auciello pitched two innings and walked three and struck out three batters as well. Auciello also hit two singles and knocked in two runs.

Dalton Dougherty took the loss on the mound for the Rams. Dougherty pitched two innings, giving up three hits and eight runs. Five of the runs were earned. He walked four batters and struck out one.

Senior Dan Newton had two hits for Spotswood and two RBIs. Matthew Ciaccio, Sal Mistretta and Ryan Szatkowski all had RBI singles for the Chargers in the win. Junior JT Vento was three-for-three at the plate with a double and a triple.

South River's Michael DeSantis hit two singles and two RBIs while RJ Fischer had a double and two RBIs.

The win moves the Chargers overall record to 4-4 on the season. They are 3-2 in league play. The Chargers will travel to Edison on Friday, April 22 to take on Bishop Ahr in a 4 p.m. game.
